According to Q3 2023 data by ResearchGate, a market data research platform, everyday, people spend about 3 hours and 50 minutes online on an average on their smartphones. Currently, the daily use of smartphones varies between 5 hours and 20 minutes to 1 hours and 54 minutes depending on the geographical location.

How to cut down your screen time

Most of us have often tried to reduce the usage of smartphones but somehow, we seem to fail. Most of the time we don’t know where to cut corners. But there are ways you can reduce the time you spend on your smartphone. Given below are some steps you can take reduce your screen time:

·      Start by making a fixed timetable for using your smartphone. For example, you can set a fixed time for checking your phone, like after a gap of 2-3 hrs. This can be tough sometimes, but it will help you limit your phone usage.

·      Notifications can be distracting and irritating at the same time. You often tend to check notifications as soon as they pop up. This eventually leads you to scroll through your phone for the next few minutes (sometimes even more). To stop this, you need to prioritise your notifications. Turn on notifications that are genuinely important to you, such as work-related apps when at work.

·      Another trick that you can use is to go for health apps related notifications. This way you can be aware of your health and spend less time on your phone. You can also install apps that help you to track the time spent on your phone.

·      Try to keep your phone out of your sight. As the saying goes ‘out of your sight, out of your mind’. Keeping your phone out of your sight will help you to focus more on your work. You will not get distracted or have the urge to check your phone frequently.

·      Lastly, keep your phone on a ‘Do not disturb’ mode. This will help to avoid distractions when notifications keep popping up. To opt for this option, go to your device settings and customise the ‘Do not disturb’ mode as per your convenience.
