Instagram will soon let you schedule your DMs. Yes you heard it right. The popular social media platform is bringing an update enabling you to use this feature. As reported by TechCrunch, the Meta-owned social network said on Monday that the new feature is rolling out to all users globally. Let’s have a look at what the update means to you.
Schedule your DMs
Reportedly, the new feature was first spotted by Lindsey Gamble, who is a social media expert. So, what does this update mean to you? Now you can schedule a DM. Here’s how to use the feature:
- Start by typing out a message and holding down the send button
- Now you need to select a date and time to send the message.
- Once you schedule a message, you will see a banner for notification. This will notify you that you have “1 scheduled message”. This will happen every time you open the chat until the DM gets delivered at the scheduled time.
Please note that Instagram will allow you to schedule a message up 29 days in advance, according to some testers.
With the increased number of creators and using Instagram as a professional platform the new update can simplify their work a lot. The new option to schedule DMs will be useful for brands and creators who want to schedule outreach messages at optimal times. Also it can be beneficial for regular users who want to reach their friends at a certain time due to different time zones. Furthermore, you can also use the feature to send a reminder about something at any specific time.
Other updates
In other news, Instagram will also add the ability to share your live location with friends in your DMs. With this feature you can share your location for up to one hour at a time. This eventually makes it easier for you to find your friends/families when meeting at outings, concerts, or other events.
The location-sharing feature will work in both personal and group chats. You can turn it on or off depending on your preferences. This is quite similar to the SnapMap feature available in Snapchat.
