Remember how ChatGPT dominated the Apple App Store rankings a few weeks ago, leading to Tesla and X CEO Elon Musk crying foul and threatening to sue Apple for favouring OpenAI’s chatbot? That App Store ranking order has now changed. ChatGPT is no longer leading the App Store rankings, and in its place comes Gemini – Google’s widely available AI chatbot. Its first-place ranking comes courtesy of you sharing those 3D figurine pictures of yourself on social media – part of the Nano Banana trend.
Google’s Gemini AI chatbot has surged past OpenAI’s ChatGPT to become a top-ranked app on the Apple App Store, driven by the viral ‘Nano-Banana trend sweeping social media. The trend, which went viral over the last few days and was publicly promoted by Google, leverages the latest image generation prowess of the Gemini app to transform generic user pictures into 3D figurine-style image portraits.
Nano Banana puts Gemini on top
The Nano-Banana feature, which is free to use, creates detailed and lifelike figurines on acrylic bases, maintaining striking realism and preserving the user’s facial features. The AI prompt has forced many to create 3D figurines of their images, including numerous celebrities and politicians like Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma and Goa CM Pramod Sawant.
The Nano Banana trend follows the viral AI trends of ChatGPT’s ‘Ghibli-style’ image generation, focusing on generating consistent, realistic, and shareable 3D portraits. Although Nano Banana doesn’t seem to have any practical implementation, it goes on to show the image generation capabilities of the Gemini AI models.
It remains to be seen whether ChatGPT and Grok manage to come up with another viral trend advertising their latest capabilities.
How to create Nano Banana-style 3D figurine images
If you are keen to be a part of the Nano Banana trend, the process is rather easy.
– The tool is accessible through the Google Gemini app or Google AI Studio, both of which are free to access.
– You can upload a personal photo, preferably a portrait image and accompany it with a prompt that describes a 3D figurine of the image used.
– Once generated, users can adjust or recreate certain parts of the image with additional prompts until they achieve the desired result.
