OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, the person behind one of the leading AI language models, was recently seen in a podcast with Nikhil Kamath. In the podcast with Zerodha Co-founder, Sam stressed on one particular thing more than the others, which was the declining birthrates across many countries in the world. This problem is one that bothered OpenAI CEO more than AI’s unbelievable advancements, resulting in job losses across industries.

Sam Altman became a father earlier this year, which he described as an “amazing” feeling, and said that more and more people should embrace parenthood. He told Nikhil Kamath in the podcast that family and community are the two most important things for the human population. Therefore, young couples across high-GDP-per-capita countries should consider becoming parents and not miss out on the same. Meanwhile, he added “I think it’s pretty clear that family and community are two of the things that make us the happiest, and I hope we will turn back to that,”.

Artificial General Intelligence:

Interestingly, Sam Altman sees Artificial Intelligence as a solution to this problem of declining birth rates across the globe. Artificial General Intelligence, which can think like humans and reason too, however, is just an imaginable form of the AI models presently available, is viewed as a solution by Sam. He told Nikhil that AGI’s once fully developed, could help people raise children and foster communities in unimaginable ways.

He said, “AGI will allow for a world where people have more abundance, more time, more resources, and potential, and ability.” In that imagined future, society grows richer, daily life becomes less pressured, and families have more support to thrive.

Chat-GPT Use Case Scenario:

When Sam was asked about describing fatherhood, he said, “It felt like the most important and meaningful and fulfilling thing I could imagine doing”. He also added that he was very content with raising children and that he was asking questions as much as possible to ChatGPT. This area, he describes as another scenario where his model could come in handy.

During a podcast with OpenAI, a few months back, Sam said, “My kids will never be smarter than AI,” he also added, “They will grow up vastly more capable than we grew up, and able to do things that we cannot imagine, and they’ll be good at using AI.”. The important thing for Altman is too teach children how to work with intelligent systems, which is equally important to teach children as is teaching reading or writing.

Other Tech CEO’s Stance:

Sam Altman is one person among many in the Tech world who are supportive of raising families and developing communities. Another big Tech CEO, Elon Musk is also a very ardent pro-family enthusiast, which is observable through his statements. Elon is also a father to 10 children, and he stresses that “A collapsing birth rate is the biggest danger civilisation faces by far.”
