X boss Elon Musk recently spoke to Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu. The talk held between the two was live-streamed on the Musk-owned platform, better called X, formerly Twitter.
Elon Musk hinted at a possible “small monthly payment” to use X. He believes that this move could possibly work as a final nail to the coffin of bots on the platform. He admits, “It’s the only way I can think of to combat vast armies of bots.”
He explains, “Because a cost fraction of a penny, call it a tenth of a penny but even if it has to pay—a few dollars or something, the effective cost of bots is very high,” he said.

While Musk hinted at a possible small fee, he doesn’t go into digits—explaining how much would this subscription service cost. Notably, Twitter or X already has a subscription called X Premium, previously Twitter Blue, which comes at $8 per month or $84 per year—and the price varies from device to device due to platform fees—offering a blue check, the ability to edit posts, more words in one post, and a plethora of other features.

Musk, during the conversation, also shared the social media figures. He tells the Israeli PM that X has 550 million monthly users generating over 100-200 million posts per day. However, most haven’t fallen for an X Premium subscription. TechCrunch notes that an analysis revealed only about 8.27 lakh users have subscribed to X Premium. It also adds that this move to charge everyone a small amount of money doesn’t come unexpectedly, and it had always been in the cards referring to Elon Musk’s plans of putting all of Twitter behind a paywall.
