Did you just ask ChatGPT ‘Who is David Mayer?’ Well, if you did you might face issues using the popular artificial intelligence (AI) powered chatbot platform. Yes, ChatGPT is somehow facing glitches when using this name.

ChatGPT denies to respond: What went wrong

As reported by Mashable, a strange bug went viral over the Thanksgiving weekend. An incident shows that after a user types a prompt requesting information about “David Mayer”, the platform crashes. Due to some unknown reason, OpenAI’s chatbot will stop and show a message saying “I’m unable to produce a response,” when it tries to output the name.

The issue seems to be quite messed up. This is because when ChatGPT is asked about the ‘David Mayer,’ it responds that it can answer it. But when it’s asked to ‘actually say about it,’ it just responds that it can’t respond back. Many internet users are still trying to find why ChatGPT is mysteriously malfunctioning. For example, if you ask it to write the name “David Mayer,” it will say that it can write the name. But as soon as it starts typing an error message appears stating that it cannot respond to the request.

Well, this is not the first time that ChatGPThave responded in such a way. Earlier in June, one user discovered that asking ChatGPT to write the name of CNBC journalist David Faber resulted in a similar error. Also, while asking about other names such as Brian Hood and Jonathan Turley, ChatGPT refuses to respond.

Netizens react

The glitch has resulted in an increased number of searches for this name in Google search. Netizens are checking if it’s only ChatGPT or not. Some Reddit users claim that it’s only the AI platform. This might be a case of AI hallucination or it could be a sign that AI cannot always be something to be depended on. But what could be the reason for this mishap?

Some analysts suggest that these people are public or semi-public figures who may prefer to have certain information “forgotten” by search engines or AI models. Other speculations suggest that Whether due to legal, safety, privacy, or other concerns, these names are likely covered by special rules, just as many other names and identities are. However, OpenAI has not made any official response to repeated inquiries about the sudden glitch.
