Apple has officially announced its next major event, scheduled for September 9, 2024. The event, titled “It’s glowtime,” is expected to unveil the highly anticipated iPhone 16 lineup. This year’s models will include the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max.
Apple event on September 9: iPhone 16 expected
The iPhone 16 series is rumoured to feature some modest updates compared to last year’s models. Notably, the iPhone 16 Pro models will sport larger screens, with the Pro version increasing from 6.1 inches to 6.3 inches and the Pro Max growing from 6.7 inches to 6.9 inches. A new addition to the Pro models is a dedicated camera button, though it’s unclear if it will replace the existing Action Button.
Apple is also expected to introduce new Apple Intelligence features, which are currently being tested and will likely be released with iOS 18.1 after the iPhone 16 launch. There is speculation that the standard iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus might receive “pro” hardware, making them compatible with generative AI features that are currently exclusive to the Pro models. However, more significant hardware changes may not arrive until the potential release of the “iPhone 17 Slim” next year.
Other expected announcements
In addition to the iPhone 16 lineup, Apple is expected to launch the Apple Watch Series 10 and new AirPods during the September 9 event. The Apple Watch Series 10 is rumored to be slimmer with larger screens, while the new AirPods could replace the current 2nd and 3rd generation models. According to reports, the new mid-tier AirPods may combine features from the 3rd generation AirPods and AirPods Pro, including active noise cancellation for the first time.
These new products are expected to be available as early as September 20, 2024.
