The Apple Watch Ultra made its debut on September 7, 2022, and started shipping just weeks later, on September 23, 2022. Designed with sports enthusiasts in mind, it combined rugged durability with advanced features suited for extreme activities. Building on this success, the second-generation Apple Watch Ultra 2 was introduced on September 22, 2023, and became available the same day. This latest iteration continued to cater to adventurers, offering enhanced capabilities and a refined design. However, fans hoping for a new third-generation model will be disappointed, as recent updates reveal that no new Apple Watch Ultra will be announced at the upcoming event. Instead, the focus will remain on updating the current Ultra 2, with a new black titanium option being the only significant change.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has revealed that Apple won’t be launching a third-generation Apple Watch Ultra at it’s Glowtime event set to take place tonight at 10:30PM. Instead, the company will update the existing Apple Watch Ultra 2 with a new black titanium colour option. This new black finish was hinted at by earlier FCC leaks.
There’s also speculation that the Apple Watch Ultra may not receive new features, such as sleep apnea support, which is anticipated for the Apple Watch Series 10.
Apple is expected to launch the Apple Watch Series 10 aka Watch X at tonight. The new series is rumoured to come with a major redesign to mark the celebration of tenth anniversary of Apple smartwatch. The Apple Watch X is said to feature a sleeker design and a new magnetic band attachment mechanism. Bloomberg reports suggest it may also introduce advanced health features like blood-pressure monitoring and sleep apnea detection.
According to famous Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the Apple Watch X will offer larger screen sizes, expanding from the current 41mm to 45mm and from 45mm to 49mm. However, despite the increase in screen size, the overall design of the watch is expected to become slimmer.
