Apple is back again with a bunch of new updates . As reported by Bloomberg, the tech giant plans to bring satellite connections to its smartwatch in 2025. Well, this is not the only update! Apple also plans to update the smartwatch by adding a blood-pressure feature. The aim of this feature is to make health-conscious consumers and hikers upgrade their devices. Let’s have a detailed look at the new updates.
Connect your smartwatch with a satellite!
Reportedly, the satellite capability is scheduled to come to next year’s Apple Watch Ultra. Some people associated with these plans said that the Apple Watch Ultra will be their top-of-the-line model. The new technology will allow smartwatch users to send off-the-grid text messages through Globalstar Inc.’s fleet of satellites when there is no Wi-Fi or cellular connection. Yes,the upcoming updates will be brought in collaboration with Globalstar Inc.
The Apple Watch Ultra would be the first mainstream smartwatch with satellite abilities. The company first launched a satellite communication feature with the iPhone 14 in 2022. It lets users stay in contact with emergency services while off the grid. The capability was expanded last year to allow for contact with roadside. However, there was one loophole. One had to carry their iPhone to use this feature. But now it will be directly connected to the watch. Makes it more easy and portable to use.
The way ahead
Over the past few years, Apple and Globalstar have already expanded their partnership. In November alone, the iPhone maker invested about $1.5 billion in GlobalStar to ramp up the infrastructure. Now with the new plans, it aims to bring more value to the existing partnership.
Apart from the satellite connection, Apple also plans to bring a blood pressure tracking feature. This will have the ability to track and monitor whether Apple Watch users have high blood pressure or not. This might arrive as soon as 2025.
Looking ahead, Apple has not made any official announcement. Considering the early launches, Apple has always been ‘planning big’ announcements. However, many of them were not ‘big enough’ as promised though.
