Apple smart home has been in the discussion for a long time. Speculations on how the product would look has been brewing for a long time. Now Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has finally broken the silence by throwing some light about the upcoming product. In his ‘Power On’ newsletter he wrote that the smart home display could be similar to the good old iMac G4.
On October 27, Gurman said that the rumored Apple smart home display is inspired by the iMac G4. Notably, the iMac G4 was an all-in-one personal computer manufactured, designed, and sold by Apple from January 2002 to August 2004. Let’s have a look at what awaits us!
Apple brings iMac G4 back!
Gurman wrote in the newsletter that Apple wants to bring back the ‘classic old’ design of iMac G4 that it had to kill. The new smart home device will be quite small. He further noted that it can have a square display with a small base. But how does it make it similar to the old iMac G4? So, the small base of the smart home display matches with the “reminiscent of the circular bottom of the iMac G4 from a couple of decades ago.”
In addition to this, you can also expect to get speakers attached to the smart home display. Looks like Apple might bring a HomePod with a screen! However, no official announcement has been made by Apple yet. Also, as of now the price of the new device is not known yet. But Gurman suggests that the new device could come at an affordable price range.
Adding on this, other speculations suggest that Apple can also bring another new model in its smart home product lineup. A $1,000 model with a ‘robotic arm.’ This will also have a display and is expected to come by 2026. Furthermore, both devices are expected to include some Apple apps, such as Calendar, FaceTime and Notes, among others. In addition to this, these can also work with Apple Intelligence, which is unavailable in the existing smart home product lineup.
Other updates
Apart from the expansion of its product lineup, Apple is also expanding its retail presence. Brownie point, it’s also hiring new employees. Yes Apple will be hiring about 400 people from India. The hiring announcement comes after it announced the launch of four new retail stores. The stores are in Pune, Bengaluru, Delhi-NCR and Mumbai. Currently, it employs about 100 people at the newly launched stores in Delhi’s Select City Walk and Mumbai’s BKC.
