Apple seems to experience a rise in its PC shipments. According to IDC, Apple’s shipments jumped 20.8% from the second quarter of 2023.The rise of Apple PC market to 20.8% seems to be the biggest rise among global PC makers, followed by a gain of 13.7% by Acer Group.

Reports from preliminary results by Gartner Inc suggest that the worldwide PC shipments totaled 60.6 million units in the second quarter of 2024. The rise is about a 1.9% increase from the second quarter of 2023. It looks like this marks three consecutive quarters of year-over-year growth for the PC market.

Apple PCs sees a rise

According to sources, the global shipments of personal computers rose by 3% in the second quarter. This rise can be attributed to the rising demand for AI-capable devices, with Apple  seeing the biggest growth among PC makers, preliminary data from research firm IDC showed on Tuesday.

In addition to this the PC shipments reached 64.9 million units in the three months ended June, marking a second straight quarter of growth after two years of decline, the report said.

According to IDC, the market for PCs is expected to rebound from a lull in orders. The comeback is expected to come after the pandemic-driven buying spree.

The PC market ahead

“However, two consecutive quarters of growth, combined with plenty of market hype around AI PCs and a less sexy but arguably more important commercial refresh cycle, seems to be what the PC market needed,”  Ryan Reith, group vice president with IDC’s Worldwide Device Trackers explained.

Furthermore, he claimed that the buzz for the PC seems to be revolving around AI. In addition to this he explained that a lot is happening with non-AI PC purchasing also. This eventually makes this market mature and shows signs of positivity.

In spite of Apple’s rise, China continues to hold the market back, IDC said. The report also added that excluding the country, worldwide shipments grew more than 5% in the quarter year-over-year.  It is expected that China’s Lenovo Group saw the highest market share of 22.7%, followed by HP with 21.1%. On the other hand, Dell technologies market share was less compared to these. The Dell PC market stood at 15.5% while its shipments fell to about 2.4%.
