M4 MacBook Air goes on sale in India from March 12.

Apple has officially discontinued last year’s M3 MacBook Air. The MacBook Air M2 from 2022 has also been retired. The development comes soon after the launch of the new M4 MacBook Air. The 2025 version may have the same design but it’s a whole different beast on the inside. Plus, with it, Apple is also returning to its roots in a way.

The MacBook Air was, at one point, the most affordable MacBook from Apple, that cost less than 1 lakh Rupees in India. But with switch to M2 and then M3, the prices started to creep up. The MacBook Air with M2 price in India started at Rs 1,19,900 at launch. The M3 MacBook Air came in starting at Rs 1,14,900. The MacBook Air M4 starts at Rs 99,900, meaning that it once again starts below 1 lakh.

Apple did not kill the M2 MacBook Air following the launch of the M3 model. Instead, it made it more affordable lowering the base price to Rs 99,900. That is not the case with the launch of the new generation. But that is not to say, you can’t buy the MacBook Air M3 or M2, anymore. You’ll still be able to get it from third-party retail and e-commerce websites.

The 13-inch M3 MacBook Air with 16GB unified memory and 256GB SSD is currently available at a price of Rs 81,494 on Croma. The 13-inch MacBook Air M2 variant with 16GB unified memory and 256GB SSD is available for Rs 76,890 on Vijay Sales.

The M4 MacBook Air is available to pre-order at the time of writing with general availability pegged for March 12. Like its predecessor, the 2025 version also comes in a choice of 13- and 15-inch screen sizes.

The 13-inch MacBook Air M4 has a base price of Rs 99,900 for an M4 variant with a 10-core CPU, 8-core GPU, 16GB unified memory, and 256GB SSD. The base 15-inch MacBook Air M4 with a 10-core CPU, 10-core GPU, 16GB unified memory, and 256GB SSD is priced at Rs 1,24,900. The switch to M4 brings more power and efficiency to the Air including the ability to drive up to two 6K external displays with the lid open. The design is familiar though Apple made a new “sky blue” option that joins the existing midnight, starlight, and silver colours.
