Aadhaar card is one of the most used cards for primary identification documents in India. But have you ever thought what if they get misused? Yes, this could definitely happen. The Aadhar card contains each and every minor detail about you. From personal information to your health related data, it has all. This makes it prone to threat and fraudulent activities. Let’s have a look at how your Aadhar could be misused and how to stay safe from it.

Aadhaar to get misused

So, how can your Aadhaar get misused? As your Aadhar has all details of you, it can often get used by fraudsters. For example, it could be used in identity theft, land you up in money laundering and even cause threat to your family as it holds your location. To keep you safe UIDAI allows users to track Aadhaar usage to prevent misuse. Here’s how you can see if your Aadhaar is getting misused or not:

  • Start by visiting the official myAadhaar portal.
  • Now enter your Aadhaar number. After that you will get a captcha code, which you need to fill
  • Now click on the ‘Login With OTP,’ option.
  • Next you will get an OTP. This OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number. Now enter the OTP. After that you will get  access to your account.
  •  Now choose the “Authentication History” option. Next you need to select the date range for the period you want to review your Aadhar usage.
  • Check the log and look for any suspicious or unfamiliar transactions. In case you find some unauthorized activity, report it to UIDAI as soon as possible.

With the rising safety issues, it’s always advisable to take precautions and be careful where you share your data. Given below are some of the safety guidelines that can help you stay safe from such security breaches:

  • UIDAI now offers you the option to set up a biometric lock for your Aadhaar. This allows you to use your fingerprint/iris as a lock to secure your Aadhaar. For more information you can visit the official website of UIDAI. It will further direct you on how to set up your biometric lock. 
  • In case you face any Aadhaar related scams you can also call UDAI’ toll-free helpline. The number is 1947. 
  • Lastly you can also mail a complaint to Udai’s official mail, which is help@uidai.gov.in
