Significance
Eid-ul-Adha celebrates the immeasurable faith of Prophet Ibrahim, who was willing to sacrifice his son Ismail on God’s command. However, God intervened and replaced Ismail with a male sheep, displaying that intention and devotion matter the most. In modern days, this act has been replaced with the ritual of animal sacrifice, as a reminder for believers of submission to the divine will and to show the importance of faith and charity. Visuals from Uttar Pradesh float in as members of the community gather to offer namaz in Ayodhya.

Bakrid rituals
The festive day begins with special prayers at mosques or open grounds with “Eid Mubarak” greetings. People usually opt for traditional outfits and prepare for Qurbani, which refers to the sacrifice of goat, sheep or buffalo. The meat of the sacrificed animal is then divided into three parts for family, friends or relatives and one for the less fortunate. Eid Al Adha was celebrated by large numbers in Ahmedabad too as people celebrated the occassion after praying.

Hajj pilgrimage significance
Eid al-Adha holds profound spiritual meaning and is directly linked to the annual Hajj pilgrimage. For Muslims who are able, the Hajj is a once-in-a-lifetime religious duty. This significant festival always occurs at the culmination of the Hajj, which is performed in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, during the Islamic month of Dhu al-Hijjah.
Why does Bakrid have a different date each year?
Dhul-al-Hijjah, which is the 12th and last month in the Islamic Calendar, usually coincides with Bakrid almost every year. In the Western Gregorian calendar, it happens roughly eleven days earlier every year. Also, it becomes impossible to tell an exact date well in advance because it depends on moon cycle.
