Moving out of your parents’ home and setting up a place of your own is a milestone many dream of. For actor Ananya Panday, that moment came last year when she started living independently for the first time. The 25-year-old purchased a one-bedroom apartment in the same Bandra building as her parents and moved in to begin what she calls ‘a very personal new chapter.’

The minimalist, Scandinavian-style home is all about pastel hues, cosy corners and personalised detailing which reflects her personality in the best way possible. The interiors were designed by family friend and celebrity designer Gauri Khan. Ananya opens up her home for a tour and gives a glimpse of the space she calls an extension of her personality.

‘Home is a sense of belonging

In her interaction with Architectural Digest, Ananya described what ‘home’ means to her. “The idea of home, for me, is a sense of belonging, about feeling like myself,” she said. “But above all, it always means family.”

Her apartment has neutral walls, clean lines, custom furniture and muted tones that bring calm to the space. The design is elegant, giving the home a warm, live-in feel without losing its aesthetic identity.

A ‘girly’ space with personality

Speaking to Asian Paints, Ananya shared that she wanted guests to instantly recognise the space as hers. “I wanted people to walk in and be like, we imagined your house to be exactly like this, an extension of my personality,” she said.

Starting with a large pastel-pink entrance door that opens into a corridor continuing the pink theme, leading to a compact but modern kitchen with baby-blue cabinets. Inside, powder-pink accent walls appear in the bedroom and the walk-in closet, while ribbons, florals and soft textures are spread across the home.

During the tour, Ananya paused at the kitchen to share that she has recently taken up baking, calling cookies and a good meal her favourite way to unwind.

Cosy corners, books and a balcony full of greens

The house includes several intentionally designed nooks like a reading corner, a space reserved for her dog riot, and plant-filled patches that bring an organic warmth to the flat. Indoor greens, dim lighting and personalised wallpaper lend the home a lived-in intimacy.

The corridor opens into a living-cum-dining area finished in beige and cream tones. Most of the furniture is custom-made from Gauri Khan Designs. At one end of the space is a TV and media wall lined with books, a corner Ananya says is growing quickly as she buys more titles.

Extending from the living room is a balcony studded with plants and outdoor seating, one of the highlights of the house and a key reason she loved the space.

The walk-in closet: ‘Every little girl’s dream’

One of the most talked-about parts of Ananya’s home is her large walk-in closet tucked behind a pastel pink door. Soft lighting, a full-length mirror, organised compartments and even a secret entry make it, in Ananya’s words, ‘every little girl’s dream’.

She says the closet is the only part of the house that carries a bit of her work life, filled with outfits from shoots and events, while the rest of the home remains purely personal.

For the actor, the biggest joy has been creating a space she feels completely herself in, one that holds both comfort and identity. The house marks not just a new address, but an emotional milestone.
