Forbes Rich List 2025: Mukesh Ambani net worth drops 12% to $105 billion, Adani loses $24bn

While Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Ambani have dominated the rich list, the combined wealth of India’s 100 richest has declined by 9%.

Mukesh Ambani, chairman and MD of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), has once again occupied the top position in the Top 100 ranking of India’s richest people with the net worth of $105 billion. The billionaire saw a decline of 12 percent or $14.5 billion compared to last year when his wealth was estimated to be $119.5 billion. Ambani who recently announced Reliance Intelligence to focus on AI and deep tech, continues to explore new territories and wealth avenues.

Right after Ambani, Gautam Adani, the founder and chairman of the Adani Group, has claimed the second spot with $92 billion. The business tycoon who came under the scanner for charges of bribery in US, has also witnessed a drop in his net worth by 20% to $24bn, compared to last year’s $116 billion. Adani got relief in September after India’s market regulator found no proof of Hindenburg Research’s fraud allegations, which had sparked a massive 2023 sell-off in group companies in 2023.

Next comes Savitri Jindal, widow of founder Om Prakash Jindal, who along with her nine children retains her India’s richest woman tag with $40.2 billion net worth. O.P. Jindal Group, a sprawling conglomerate set up by her late husband, Om Prakash Jindal. The New Delhi-based company is involved in steel production, mining, power generation, industrial gases, cement production and port facilities.

Next comes Sunil Mittal, founder and chairman of Bharti Airtel, among India’s largest mobile phone operators, with the net worth of $34.2 billion, who has gained majorly on his wealth compared to last year when his family’s wealth stood at $30.7 billion, and was ranked at No. 7. This year, he is placed on fourth position.

Shiv Nadar, Indian IT pioneer, co-founder of HCL occupies the fifth position with $33.2 billion. However, his wealth has slightly declined compared to last year’s $33.6 billion, which has led him to slip one position.

New entrants and old players

Radhakishan Damani & family, the veteran Mumbai investor who has 430 DMart stores across India, with $28.2 billion, stood at No. 6.

There are some new players in the list too that deserve mention. Doshi siblings with a net worth of $7.5 billion are placed at No 37. Sunil Vachani, founder and chairman of Dixon Technologies, at No 80 has a net worth of $3.85 billion.

Leena Tewari at No 82, with wealth of $3.8 billion and PNC Menon at No 87 with $3.6 billion net worth, Sobha and KP Ramasamy of KPR Mill at No 97 with $3.3 billion have once again made it to the list.

Overall, the combined wealth of India’s 100 richest has declined by 9%, or around $100 billion, which has brought the total to $1 trillion, notes Forbes.
