The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has stated that they are planning to expand its fleet by adding 20 luxury Airavat Club Class 2.0 model buses, each will cost around Rs 1.78 crore. These new buses will join the KSRTC’s fleet by the end of October 2024. At present, KSRTC manages 443 luxury buses over many routes all over Karnataka. The newly designed buses were inspected by KSRTC Chairman S R Srinivas (Vasu) along with Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy at the Volvo bus manufacturing facility near Hoskote.
Key features of the buses
The buses have daytime running lights (DRL), halogen headlights, and plush interiors that are redesigned and influenced by Scandinavian aesthetics. The exterior of the buses is visually appealing because of its aerodynamic design. The buses are built with the help of advanced engine technology that not only improves fuel efficiency but enhances overall performance.
Safety and Comfort Improved
To improve the comfort level, the length of the buses has been expanded so that more space is available for passenger seats. The driver’s visibility has been enhanced; the blind spot has been reduced because of the use of a wider windshield of up to 9.5%. The luggage compartments will have 20% more storage capacity. Safety features like easy access driver control, and rear fog lights. A special fire alarm and protection system called (FAPS) will help in activating the water nozzles during the time of emergency for strengthening passenger safety. A more improved visibility has been provided from the passenger door for drivers given pedestrian safety.
