Itanagar, the capital of Arunachal Pradesh, is set to enhance its urban transport infrastructure with the introduction of a new ropeway system and electric buses. The initiatives are part of the city’s efforts to modernize its transport network and promote sustainable urban mobility.
Ropeway Project Nears Finalization
The Mayor of Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC), Tamme Phassang, announced on Tuesday night that discussions for the installation of the ropeway system are in the final stages. The IMC is working with companies from Hyderabad and Gujarat to finalize the details of the project. The proposed ropeway is designed to provide a scenic and efficient transport route, connecting key areas of the city. It will operate between Lobi in Division 4, the Secretariat, Ganga Market, and Chimpu, offering residents a new way to navigate the city.
Electric Buses to Boost Urban Mobility
In addition to the ropeway, the IMC is partnering with Arunachal Pradesh State Transport Services (APSTS) to introduce 10 electric buses to the capital. This initiative is part of a broader plan to expand electric bus services in the future, depending on the success of the initial trials. The introduction of electric buses aims to reduce the carbon footprint and enhance public transportation options in the city.
Commitment to Sustainable Transport
Mayor Tamme Phassang highlighted that these developments reflect IMC’s commitment to modernizing Itanagar’s transport network and promoting sustainable urban mobility. The ropeway and electric buses are expected to alleviate traffic congestion and provide more efficient transportation options for residents.
