Tata Motors joins UN-backed LeadIT to propel Transition Towards Net-Zero Emissions

Tata Motors aims to embrace sustainability as a business transformation with significant progress in zero-emission products.

Tata Motors has announced its collaboration with the Leadership Group for Industry Transition (LeadIT), a prestigious global alliance established by the governments of Sweden and India during the UN Climate Action Summit in September 2019. By becoming a member of LeadIT, Tata Motors aims to leverage international best practices, advocate for policy advancements, and collaborate with fellow members to fortify its climate action strategies, thereby accelerating its transition towards achieving net-zero emissions.

Speaking about the partnership, SJR Kutty, Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer at Tata Motors, expressed, “This collaboration will not only expedite our own transition but also catalyze a climate for change within the automotive industry, championing a sustainable future for all.”

Welcoming Tata Motors into the esteemed group, Romina Pourmokhtari, Minister for Climate and the Environment, Sweden and Co-Chair of LeadIT, said, “This membership signals an important commitment to net zero from a leading global manufacturer in the supply chain. Industry is driving the green industrial transformation here in Sweden and we hope to inspire change globally.”

Tata Motors aims to embrace sustainability as a business transformation with significant progress in zero-emission products, renewable energy adoption, circular economy practices, water conservation, and biodiversity preservation. With 109 MW of renewable energy capacity already installed, the company plans to add approximately 300 MW in the next three years, positioning itself as a key player in the renewable energy transition. Over the past three years, Tata Motors has claimed to reduce its Scope 1+2 emissions intensity by 44%, showcasing its dedication to emissions reduction.

Moreover, Tata Motors is actively promoting circular economy principles through its TATVA framework, which focuses on materials, energy, lifetime, and utilization pathways for holistic transformation.
