A recent report by Uber has highlighted a significant rise in international travel among Indians over the past two years, underscoring a newfound enthusiasm for global exploration. According to the ride-hailing platform, Indian tourists and travelers have ventured to nearly 1,000 cities across 68 countries, reflecting a broadening of horizons and a penchant for diverse destinations.

USA, UK, and Canada Remain Popular

The United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada emerged as the top countries visited by Indian travelers, maintaining their popularity despite global travel dynamics. The report indicated that the summer holiday period, coinciding with school breaks, has become the prime season for these international adventures. Notably, May 2023 surpassed June 2022 as the preferred month for overseas travel, suggesting a shift in vacation timing among Indian globetrotters.

During their travels abroad, Indians have been covering longer distances compared to their domestic trips, averaging 25% more distance per journey. Uber services played a crucial role in facilitating these travels, offering a range of options from premium electric vehicles like Comfort Electric to multimodal transit choices integrating trains and other mass transit modes alongside the ubiquitous UberX.

The report also highlighted that Indians ranked second only to Americans in terms of Uber app usage abroad in 2023, indicating a substantial adoption of Uber services across international destinations. As the summer travel season unfolds, Uber predicts Indians will surpass previous travel records, reinforcing their growing presence in global tourism.

Moreover, many countries frequented by Indian travelers support peer-to-peer ridesharing, enabling individuals to utilize personal vehicles for Uber rides. This trend not only underscores the appeal of the gig economy globally but also showcases India’s adaptability and enthusiasm for diverse transportation options.
