Sensex Nifty Today | Stock Market Highlights: The Indian stock market closed on a positive note, extending yesterday’s gains. The Nifty 50 closed the session 207 points or 0.93% higher at 22,544.70 while the Sensex jumped 610 points or 0.83% higher at 74,340. The Bank Nifty ended 138 points or 0.28% higher at 48,628. Following the overall trend, the midcaps closed the day on the positive side. The Nifty Midcap 100 inclined 180 points or 0.37% to settle at 49,348.

Trump’s tariff warning: US President Donald Trump has once again taken aim at India’s high tariffs, particularly in the auto sector, where duties reportedly exceed 100%. Addressing Congress, he announced that from April 2, the US will impose reciprocal tariffs, matching India’s levies. He also indicated that additional trade barriers, if American companies face restrictions in India.
Bond Market selloff hits Asia: A sharp bond market selloff rattled Asia, with Japan’s 10-year yield surging to 1.5% – a level last seen in 2009 amid inflation concerns. The downturn, sparked by heavy selling in German bunds, sent US Treasury yields higher for the third consecutive session, nearing 4.3%. Bond yields in Australia and New Zealand also saw a significant uptick. Meanwhile, Asian equities found some relief from the delay in certain US tariffs on Mexico and Canada.
US markets: US stock markets closed higher on Wednesday, with the Nasdaq Composite surging 1.46% to 18,552.73. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 1.14% to close at 43,006.59, while the S&P 500 advanced 1.12% to settle at 5,842.63.

WTI crude oil fell to a six-month low of $65.20 per barrel, driven by concerns over demand, exacerbated by fears of trade wars and OPEC+’s decision to resume reviving idle production in April. “U.S. crude inventories saw a much larger-than-expected increase of 3.61 million barrels last week, pushing total stocks to 433.8 million barrels, the highest since July 2024,” said Kaynat Chainwala, Assistant Vice President of Commodity Research at Kotak Securities.
