Israel PM Netanyahu headed to New York for UN opening Tel Aviv

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will take off after the end of the Rosh Hashanah holiday Sunday night for a political visit to the United States, during which he will address the United Nations General Assembly next Friday morning as part of the opening ceremonies for its new session.

Big boost for Indian Air Force – Latest DAC decisions

Defence Ministry today approved the proposal for the procurement of 12 Su-30MKIs for the Indian Air Force which would be manufactured in India by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. The Rs 11,000 crores project would include the aircraft and related ground systems. The aircraft would include more than 60 per cent indigenous content as per the requirement. These would be the most modern Su-30 MKI aircraft of the Indian Air Force equipped with multiple Indian weapons and sensors: Defence officials. Additionally, the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) has accorded Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for nine capital acquisition proposals of approx. Rs 45,000 crores. The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Rajnath Singh on September 15, 2023. All these procurements will be made from Indian vendors under Buy (Indian-Indigenously Designed Developed and Manufactured (IDMM)/Buy (Indian) category which will give substantial boost to the Indian defence Industry towards achieving the goal of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’: Defence Ministry. The ministry also said that DAC has further approved procurement of Next Generation Survey Vessels for the Indian Navy which will greatly enhance its capabilities in performing Hydrographic Operations. India’s exports decline 7 pc to USD 34.48 billion in August

India’s exports declined by 6.86 per cent to USD 34.48 billion in August this year as against USD 37.02 billion in the same month last year, government data showed on Friday. Imports too declined by 5.23 per cent to USD 58.64 billion as against USD 61.88 billion recorded in August 2022. The country’s trade deficit in the month stood at USD 24.16 billion. During April-August this fiscal, exports contracted by 11.9 per cent to USD 172.95 billion. Imports during the five-month period fell by 12 per cent to USD 271.83 billion. (READ MORE)

Apple to update iPhone 12 software in France to settle radiation row

Apple said on Friday it would issue a software update for iPhone 12 users in France to potentially end a row with French regulators that ordered the suspension of the phone’s sale due to breaches of radiation exposure limits. “We will issue a software update for users in France to accommodate the protocol used by French regulators. We look forward to iPhone 12 continuing to be available in France,” Apple said in a statement. (Reuters)

Greater Noida lift crash

At least four people died after a lift fell at an under-construction building in Greater Noida on Friday. Latest reports say that the accident took place at Amrapali Group’s Dream Valley project in Greater Noida. As many as 12 people were inside the lift when it collapsed. (READ MORE)

France’s Total in talks to invest in Adani Green’s projects – Bloomberg News

French oil major TotalEnergies is in talks to invest in renewable energy projects developed by India’s Adani Green Energy as part of its clean energy push, Bloomberg News reported on Friday, citing unnamed sources. Total could invest about $700 million in the projects, the report said, citing one source. TotalEnergies and Adani did not immediately respond to Reuters’ requests for comment. (REUTERS)

Spainish textile major to start production in Bengal from December: Mamata Banerjee

Tempe Grupo Inditex (Zara), a Spain-based textile major, is expected to start production in West Bengal before Christmas, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said. Flooding death toll soars in Libya

The death toll in Libya’s coastal city of Derna has soared to 11,300 as search efforts continue following a massive flood fed by the breaching of two dams in heavy rains, the Libyan Red Crescent said Thursday.Marie el-Drese, the aid group’s secretary-general, told The Associated Press by phone that a further 10,100 people are reported missing in the Mediterranean city. No relief for Iran

Britain, France and Germany announced Thursday they will keep their sanctions on Iran related to the Mideast country’s atomic program and development of ballistic missiles. The measures were to expire in October under a timetable spelled out in the now defunct nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers.In a joint statement, the three European allies known as E3 and which had helped negotiate the nuclear deal, said they would retain their sanctions in a “direct response to Iran’s consistent and severe non-compliance” with the accord, also known by its official name as Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action or JCPOA.
