As we roll into to August 2024, carmakers are reporting their sales numbers for July 2024 today. Carmakers such as Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, MG, Kia, Hyundai, and Mahindra will release sales data today, while two-wheeler manufacturers will also be sharing numbers.
Maruti Suzuki’s Q1 profit has already shown the company’s profit is up by 47 percent, with CNG cars gaining momentum. For Maruti Suzuki, one in every three cars sold is a CNG vehicle, while the Jimny was the highest exported vehicle last month.
So far, Maruti Suzuki has reported a decrease in sales, along with Hyundai and Tata Motors. Mahindra, Bajaj, Honda and Suzuki have posted positive growth in July 2024. Tomorrow, Honda Car India, Royal Enfield, Nissan, and others are yet to disclose numbers.

With most automakers reporting a decline in sales in July 2024, new launches are expected to boost sales for carmakers in the coming months. Stay tuned for more sales breakups in the coming days.
So far, we have seen Royal Enfield and Hero MotoCorp, both registering decline in sales. Royal Enfield has a few models coming up and has also been spotted testing the Himalayan 650 for the first time.

And Royal Enfield has also reported a decline in sales in July 2024. The Chennai-based motorcycle maker has registered sales of 67,265 motorcycles in July 2024 compared to selling 73,117 motorcycles in July 2023.
Last month, Hero MotoCorp‘s motorcycle sales accounted for 3,40,390 units while scooter sales accounted for 29,884 units. Both segments have witnessed a decrease in sales.
We start the day with Hero MotoCorp, India‘s leading two-wheeler maker, who has registered a 6 percent decline in sales last month. Hero MotoCorp’s total two-wheeler domestic sales stood at 3,47,535 units in July 2024 as opposed to selling 3,71,204 units in July 2023.
Talking about the sales achievement, Kenichi Umeda, Managing Director, Suzuki Motorcycle said, “Suzuki Motorcycle India recorded highest ever sales of more than 1.16 Lakh scooters & motorcycles in July 2024. Backed by healthy demand for our products in the domestic market, our sales grew by 25% in the month, crossing the 1 Lakh unit mark for the first time. I extend my heartfelt thanks to our valued customers, dedicated dealer network and our esteemed business partners for their continued trust and support, which has helped us to reach this milestone.”
Suzuki Motorcycle has, for the first time, achieved over 1 lakh domestic sales. In July 2024, Suzuki’s total sales stood at 1,16,714 units, out of which domestic sales accounted for 1,00,602 units in July 2024. Suzuki posted an overall YoY growth of 8 percent, while its domestic sales saw a 25 percent growth.
So far, we have seen sales numbers from Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, Hyundai, Mahindra, Toyota, and Kia in the four-wheeler category and Bajaj, TVS, and Honda in the two-wheeler category. Yet to roll in are numbers from Royal Enfield, Hero MotoCorp, Suzuki, Ather, Honda Car India, and Nissan amongst others.
Kia has registered domestic sales of 20,507 units in July 2024 compared to selling 20,002 units in July 2023, registering a YoY growth of 2.5%. For Kia, the Sonet was the strongest sales contributor, selling 9,459 units.
During the first seven months of 2024, Maruti Suzuki‘s total passenger vehicle sales in the domestic market registered sales of 5,56,577 units, compared to 5,66,181 units sold in the same period last year, witnessing a decline of 1 percent.
Maruti Suzuki‘s UV sales, which include Brezza, Ertiga, Fronx, Grand Vitara, Invicto, Jimny, and XL6, have registered domestic sales of 56302 units in July 2024, witnessing a YoY decline of 9.2 percent.
Maruti Suzuki sells one product in the commercial vehicle category, the Super Carry, which registered sales of 2,891 units in July 2024, witnessing a 12.9 percent YoY growth.
Maruti Suzuki, India‘s leading carmaker, has registered total domestic PV sales of 137,463 units in July 2024 compared to 152,126 units in July 2023, witnessing a 9 percent sales decline.
Three-wheeler sales registered a growth of 6 percent with sales increasing from 13,670 units in July 2023 to 14,464 units in July 2024.
For TVS, EV sales registered a growth of 61 percent, having sold 21,442 units in July 2024 as compared to 13,306 units sold in July 2023.
Motorcycle sales registered a growth of 5 percent with sales increasing from 1,53,942 units in July 2023 to 1,61,074 units in July 2024. Scooter registered a growth of 15% with sales increasing from 1,21,941 units in July 2023 to 1,39,995 units in July 2024.
Total two-wheelers registered a growth of 9 percent with sales increasing from 3,12,307 units in July 2023 to 3,39,676 units in July 2024. Domestic two-wheeler registered growth of 8 percent with sales increasing from 2,35,230 units in July 2023 to 2,54,250 units in July 2024.
TVS has sold 3,54,140 units in July 2024, as compared to 3,25,977 units in July 2023, registering a growth of 9 percent.
So far, we have seen sales numbers from Mahindra, Tata, Hyundai, Ashok Leyland, and Bajaj. Mahindra and Bajaj have posted positive domestic sales, while the CV segment has taken a hit for Mahindra and Ashok Leyland. Tata and Hyundai have posted negative domestic growth as well.
Moving on to another large CV maker, Ashok Leyland. The company’s domestic sales stood at 12,926 units in July 2024 compared to 14,207 units sold in July 2023, witnessing a negative 9 percent growth.
Mahindra‘s sales for the first seven month of 2024 stood at 1,65,871 units as compared to 1,36,367 units sold during the same period last year. YTD sales for Mahindra SUV saw a YoY growth of 22 percent.
Mahindra has seen a YoY increase of 15 percent with its domestic SUV sales in July 2024. The carmaker sold 41,623 units last month as compared to selling 36,205 units in July 2023.
Hyundai leads sales in the mid-size SUV segment currently, however, Tata Motors and Citroen have SUVs to compete with the Creta soon. Tata will be launching the Curvv soon, with the ICE version coming in September. The Citroen Basalt, however will be launching this month.
SUVs accounted for majority of Hyundai‘s sales this CY, 66.6 percent. That said, the new Hyundai Creta, launched earlier this year, achieved 1 lakh sales in July 2024.
Commenting on HMIL sales, Tarun Garg, Whole-time Director and Chief Operating Officer, HMIL said, “We have posted an overall sales growth of 4.30% Year-on-Year in the period of January to July 2024. SUVs continue to demonstrate a robust contribution, accounting for 66.6% of total HMIL domestic sales. The new Hyundai CRETA achieved key milestones of 1 Lakh unit sales till July 2024, while also achieving highest ever monthly domestic sales of 17,350 units in July 2024.”
While sales have declined in July 2024, the first seven month have seen a growth of 4.3 percent. Hyundai sold a total of 4,31,731 units, out of which domestic sales accounted for 3,46,711 units and exports accounted for 85,020 units. Hyundai’s domestic and exports saw a growth of 3.4 percent and 7.6 percent, respectively in the first seven months.
