January 2025 Auto Sales Live: Suzuki sales surpass production capacity, Hero achieves 141% growth

EV maker Odysse Electric has registered sales of 282 units in January 2025. Commenting on sales, Nemin Vora, CEO, Odysse Electric Vehicles stated, “We are encouraged by the continued positive momentum in January 2025, despite seasonal fluctuations in demand. The electric two-wheeler market in India is gaining significant traction due to increasing environmental consciousness, favorable government policies, and advancements in EV technology. Our diverse product portfolio, ranging from high-speed performance bikes to efficient delivery scooters, caters to a broad customer base. As we enter the new financial quarter and approach the festive season, we anticipate stronger growth, driven by rising consumer confidence and an increasing preference for sustainable transportation.”

Hero MotoCorp has registered sales of 4,42,873 units in January 2025. The company dispatched 4,12,378 units in the domestic market, while its global business maintained strong momentum with 30,495 units —achieving a robust 141% growth over the corresponding period last year (January 2024). This growth was driven by strong demand in key global markets, including Bangladesh and Colombia. Hero MotoCorp’s electric vehicle brand – VIDA, dispatched 6,669 units of the newly launched VIDA V2 electric scooter.

EV sales registered a growth of 55% with sales increasing from 16,276 units in January 2024 to 25,195 units in January 2025. 

Total two-wheelers registered a growth of 18% with sales increasing from 3,29,937 units in January 2024 to 3,87,671 units in January 2025. Domestic two-wheeler registered growth of 10% with sales increasing from 2,68,233 units in January 2024 to 2,93,860 units in January 2025.

In December, the Punch was the best-seller for Tata, having sold 15,073 units. The Punch was also the best-selling vehicle in CY 2024. The Nexon was the second-best-seller, while the Curvv registered sales of 4,994 units, becoming the fourth best-selling vehicle for the carmaker after the Tiago.

In January, Tata’s CV business registered total sales of 31,988 units as compared to 32,092 units sold during the same time last year. Amongst CVs, the Passenger Carrier segment saw the most growth while the SCV cargo and pickup segment saw the highest decline — negative 15 percent. Tata’s domestic sales in the CV segment also witnessed a 2 percent decline in sales.

n January 2025, Maruti Suzuki’s CV sales accounted for 4,089 units. Maruti Suzuki has one offering in the CV space, the Super Carry, which competes with the Tata Ace.

Toyota has been silently posting YoY positive growth for many months in a row and in January 2025, the company’s sales stood at 29,371 units as compared to 24,609 units sold in January 2024. The company sold 26,178 units in the domestic market and exported 3,193 units.

In CY 2024, the Tata Punch was the best-selling vehicle. The carmaker sold 2,02,031 units of the Punch, while it was followed by the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R, which registered sales of 1,90,855 units. In third was the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, with sales of 1,90,091 units.

Mahindra is a key player in the far equipment sector and the company has seen double-digit growth in January 2025 sales. Its tractors recorded domestic sales of 26,305 units, up 15 prcent, while its exports stood at 1,252 units, a growth of 12 percent compared to January 2024. Overall sales growth saw a 15 percent increase.
