Asian Markets

Asian markets edged higher after U.S. President Donald Trump said trade talks with China in Spain were making progress. Japan led the rally, with the Nikkei 225 crossing 45,000 for the first time and the Topix hitting a record 3,172.33. South Korea’s Kospi gained 0.63% while the Kosdaq was flat, and Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 rose 0.26%.

US markets

U.S. stocks ended higher on Monday. The S&P 500 rose 0.5% to close above 6,600 for the first time, while the Nasdaq gained 0.9% to hit a record 22,348.75. The Dow Jones added 49 points, or 0.1%, finishing at 45,883.45.

US dollar

The US Dollar Index (DXY), which measures the dollar’s value against a basket of six foreign currencies, was trading 0.01% up at 97.67 on Tuesday morning. The index evaluates the strength or weakness of the US dollar in comparison to major currencies. The basket contains currencies such as the British Pound, Euro, Swedish Krona, Japanese Yen, Swiss Franc, etc. The rupee depreciated 0.09% to close at 88.20 to the dollar on September 15.

Crude Oil

Crude oil prices moved slightly higher in early Tuesday trade, with WTI up 0.27% at $63.47 a barrel and Brent rising 0.29% to $67.62.

FII, DII data

On Monday, foreign investors pulled out Rs 1,269 crore from Indian equities, while domestic institutional investors stepped in, making net purchases of Rs 1,933 crore, provisional exchange data showed.

Gold rate today

Gold hit a record high on Monday as a weaker dollar and falling U.S. Treasury yields lifted demand. In the latest gold rate in Dubai, 24-carat gold was priced at AED 444.25 per gram, while 22-carat traded at AED 411.25 per gram and 18-carat at AED 338 per gram.

As per Goodreturns, in India, 10 grams of 24-carat gold rate today is Rs 1,11,050, while 22-carat gold costs Rs 1,01,790. For those preferring 18-carat gold, the price is Rs 83,280 for the same weight.

Top sectors in Monday’s trade

Sector-wise, glass stocks jumped 2.93%, REITs & InvITs advanced 2.37%, paper shares gained 1.73%, while the construction pack added 1.33% for the day.

Best and worst performing business groups

Essar Group topped the gainers with a 4.33% rise, followed by Jindal BC Group up 3.89%, Wadia Group higher by 3.71%, and GMR Group up 2.22%. On the losing side, Mahindra Group slipped 1.18%, Manipal Group fell 2.43%, and Nagarjuna Group dropped 3.49%.
