The Tata Sumo Gold hasn’t lost its complete boxy styling but looks more presentable now thanks to its flared fenders and an upright stance. Its styling is still not outright muscular but is more proportionate now and hence looks more presentable now. The spare wheel is tucked under the body which provides the rear a very clean look, however, the added graphics do add a bit of flair into the otherwise monotonous look.
The Tata Sumo might not come with the best of plush interiors but it is still an overall comfortable and airy cabin. There is plenty of headroom and passenger space. The lowermost variants are five seater whereas the top spec variants come with seven and nine seating options. The top end variants also come with a CD player with USB, AUX and Bluetooth support. The seats are made out of fabric and the dashboard out of plastic which is just about okay.
The Tata Sumo Gold comes with two engine options a 2,956 cc diesel BS III and a 2,956 cc diesel BS IV. The BS III generates 69 hp of power and 223 Nm of torque and the BS IV produces 83 hp of power and 250 Nm of torque.
The Tata Sumo Gold comes with a five speed manual transmission which offers smooth transition between gears. There is good amount of torque present which aids in the driveability of the car.
In terms of safety, it comes with disc brakes in front with drum brakes at rear, anti-submarine seats, a collapsible steering column, side intrusion beam on all doors, engine immobiliser, central locking and keyless entry.
The Tata Sumo has an ARAI rated fuel efficiency of 14.3 kmpl for BS III variant and 15.3 kmpl for BS IV variant. The fuel tank has a capacity of 65 litres which can give it a good fuel range.
