Metals, Realty, Oil & Gas lead slide
Across the board selling on the domestic equity bourses resulted in all the BSE sectoral indices ending the day deep in the red. The BSE Metal index was the biggest loser on Monday, down by 1,438.50 points or 7.28% to close the day at 18,324.50 points. Major stocks that pulled down the Metal index were Tata Steel that was down by Rs 54 or 6.15% at Rs 823.85, Jindal Steel down by Rs 1,520 or 9.57% at Rs 14,364.40 and Sterlite Industries that was down by Rs 90.15 or 8.45% to close the day at Rs 976.15. All these stocks together have a weightage of 53.2% in the BSE Metal index.
Amitabh Chakraborty, president-equity, Religare Securities, said, ?The sectors ?metals, real estate, power and capital good? which have been outperforming others till recently, fell the most on Monday.?
Other major losers among the sectoral indices include the BSE Realty index that was down by 701.10 or 5.65% at 11,699.36 points. The fall was led by DLF Ltd, which was the biggest loser among the Sensex constituents, down by 7.53%, or Rs 76.90 to close at Rs 944.25.
RIL, which lost Rs 111.55 or 3.86%, to close at Rs 2,777.50 pulled the BSE Oil & Gas index down by 666.23 points or 5.13% at 12,314.72 points. Meanwhile, the BSE PSU index down by 567.95 points or 5.63% at 9511.13 points while the BSE Power index was down by 212.85 points or 4.80% to close at 4222.68 points.
