Ashok Leyland Ltd reported a sharp decline in its net profit for the first quarter ended June 30, 2009 to Rs 7.77 crore as compared to Rs 50.56 crore during the same period last fiscal. The total income too sharply decreased to Rs 973 crore as compared to Rs 1,895.39 crore, the company informed the stock exchanges on Monday.

MRF profit at Rs 126 cr

MRF Ltd said on Monday that net profit for the first quarter ended June 30, 2009, zoomed to Rs 125.70 crore as compared to Rs 31.86 crore. Net sales were high at Rs 1,433.55 crore for the quarter as against Rs 1,274.37 crore during the same quarter of last year.

Punj Lloyd net up 14%

Engineering and construction firm Punj Lloyd on Monday said its consolidated net profit rose by 13.68% to Rs 127.16 crore for the first quarter ended June 30, 2009 over the same period last year. Total income rose to Rs 2,979 crore in the latest quarter from Rs 2,658.10 crore in the same period the previous fiscal, the company said. On a standalone basis, the company posted a net profit of Rs 68.72 crore for the June quarter, down 18.29% from Rs 84.11 crore in the same quarter last year.

Dabur India net at Rs 91 cr

Dabur India posted a consolidated net profit of Rs 91.39 crore, up 29.4% from Rs 70.65 crore recorded in the year-ago period. Consolidated net sales of the company have grown 23% to Rs 742.66 crore from Rs 603.98 crore last year during the same period. Dabur said that it recorded growth in all its key categories which include hair care (hair oils and shampoos), oral care (toothpastes), skin care, health supplements, digestives and foods reporting volume-driven growth. The reason being, consumer spending in the FMCG sector remains high even during the recession.

Titan profit up 41%

Titan Industries Ltd, a joint venture of TIDCO and Tata, has posted a profit after tax of Rs 46.04 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2009, reporting a growth of 41% over the same period last year. Income from operations went up to Rs 888.60 crore during Q of the current year, growing by 9% over the corresponding period last year. The company registered a profit before taxes of Rs 63.73 crore (Rs 44.66 crore).

TTML loss run continues

Tata Teleservices Maharashtra Ltd (TTML) on Monday reported a net loss of Rs 34.26 crore in the first quarter of 2009-10 as against Rs 34.72 crore in the year-ago period. While the company continues to be loss making, its revenues grew 1.7% to Rs 513 crore for the quarter from Rs 505 crore. Launch of express wireless broadband service, Photon+, with VAS and data revenues increased from 12.3% of wireless revenues in Q1of FY09 to 15.4% of wireless revenues in Q1FY10. TTML also crossed 8 million subscribers mark in the quarter ended June 30, 2009, with 42% growth over the 5.6 million subscriber base registered in the corresponding quarter of the previous year.

CPCL net plunges

Chennai Petroleum Corporation Ltd (CPCL) on Monday said net profit for the first quarter ended June 30, 2009, plunged to Rs 304.72 crore as compared to Rs 703.37 crore on a declined sales. Net sales were down Rs 5,660.39 crore as against Rs 11,253.20 crore during the same quarter of last fiscal.

BGR Energy net up 17%

BGR Energy Systems Ltd, the EPC company for power projects, has reported a net profit of Rs 20.24 crore for the first quarter ended June 30, 2009 as compared to Rs 17.23 crore during the same quarter of last year, a growth of 17.4%.

Zydus Cadila net up 39%

Zydus Cadila has reported a growth of 39% in its consolidated net profit for the first quarter ended June 30, 2009, to Rs 124.79 crore, over the same period a year earlier. Consolidated total income of the company also rose to Rs 907.76 crore during the April-June period of this fiscal from Rs 715.62 crore of the same period last year, Cadila Healthcare (Zydus Cadila) said. On a standalone basis, the drug maker posted a net profit of Rs 122.56 crore in the latest quarter of FY’10, whereas the same was at Rs 55.64 crore in the corresponding period a year ago.

GSK Pharma sales grows

GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals Ltd has posted a net sales growth of 10% to Rs 457.4 crore for the second quarter ended June 30, 2009, from Rs 416.9 crore. PAT has grown to Rs 124 crore from Rs 114 crore.
