UK to fast-track deportation of some immigrants, puts India on list
UK Prime Minister Kier Starmer announced immediate deportation for foreign criminals, expanding the scheme to 23 countries, including India. This aims to secure borders and reduce the burden on detention centres and prisons. Since July 2024, 5,200 such deportations have taken place, a 14% increase from the previous year. The government has invested £5 million to speed up removal.
