Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party has simultaneously surprised and shocked everyone by winning 37 seats, making it the single party in the state to send highest number of MPs to the Lok Sabha. The Congress, which joined forces with the SP, won six seats as part of the INDIA bloc. Altogether, the opposition group INDIA won 43 seats in Uttar Pradesh. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which was in a tough race with the SP, only got 33 seats, a big drop from the 63 seats they won in 2019. Prime Minister Narendra Modi won in Varanasi, but with a smaller margin of over 1.5 lakh votes compared to before. Another major setback for the BJP was Smriti Irani losing the Amethi Lok Sabha seat by over one lakh votes.

In the last elections, it was the Bahujan Samaj Party that had managed to get two seats in Purvanchal. Both Samajwadi Party and Congress couldn’t even open their account in this key region. In a reversal of fortunes, SP has emerged as a dominant force in the region. BSP, which had got two seats, didn’t even get a single seat neither in Purvanchal nor in the entire state.
In the last Lok Sabha elections, the BJP had bagged 9 seats in the Purvanchal belt.
Aazad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram)’s Chandrashekhar managed to win 1 seat (Nagina). This was the only small party that managed to win the Lok Sabha polls.
BJP registered win on two seats in Purvanchal – Varanasi and Bhadohi. NDA ally Apna Dal won key seat of Mirzapur.

A day after the Lok Sabha Election Results were announced, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tendered his resignation along with the Union Council of Ministers to President Droupdi Murmu on Wednesday. The Modi government, however, will continue in office till the new Government is formed, the Rashtrapati Bhavan said in an official statement.
Uttar Pradesh registered a 56.92% voter turnout in the seven phases of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, a 2.19% decline compared to previous elections.

She said she had requested the Election Commission to make the election period shorter, as it went on for nearly two and a half months. She thanked the Jatav community, mentioning that they mostly voted for her, fulfilling their duty. She also mentioned that the party will review how it did and stick to the ideas of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar.
SP chief Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday said that INDIA bloc’s success in Uttar Pradesh is the victory of the backward classes, Dalits and minorities. “Dear intelligent voters of Uttar Pradesh, the victory of India bloc in the state is also the victory of the Dalit-Bahujan trust which, along with backward, minority, tribal, ‘half population’ (women) and all neglected, exploited, oppressed, backward among the upper castes, has fought shoulder to shoulder to save the Constitution that gives the right to equality, respect, self-respect, dignified life and reservation,” he said on X.
Samajwadi Party candidate and former Uttar Pradesh minister RK Chaudhary triumphed over Union minister and BJP candidate Kaushal Kishore in the Mohanlalganj (reserved) parliamentary seat, winning by a margin of 70,292 votes. According to the Election Commission, the BJP candidate secured 597,577 votes, while the SP candidate garnered 667,869 votes. BSP’s Rajesh Kumar received 88,461 votes.
According to the latest Election Commission data on Tuesday, the BJP‘s vote share declined while the Congress and the Samajwadi Party saw an increase in their vote totals compared to the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. Despite contesting more seats this time, the BJP is expected to fall short of the 272-seat majority, garnering 36.58 percent of the total votes, a decrease of about 0.72 percentage points as of 10:15 pm. Meanwhile, the Congress’ vote share rose by 1.76 percentage points to 21.22 percent, up from 19.46 percent in 2019, which is also reflected in its seat tally.
Actor-turned-politician Hema Malini has secured her third consecutive victory in the Mathura constituency, defeating Congress candidate Mukesh Dhangar by a substantial margin of 293,407 votes. Malini, who is 75 years old, received 510,064 votes, while Dhangar garnered 216,657 votes, and BSP candidate Suresh Singh obtained 188,417 votes.
Hailed a BJP‘s bastion in last two Lok Sabha Elections, the Uttar Pradesh results are a humbling experience for the saffron party. According to the latest ECI data, BHP has been reduced to 33 seats. In terms of NDA partners, RLD has won 2 seats and Apna Dal (Soneylal) has won 1 seat.
