An earthquake of magnitude 3.8 on the Richter scale hit the Surguja district of Chhattisgarh on Monday night, reports said. According to the NCS, the earthquake was recorded at a depth of 10 kilometres.

Court convicts man for abetment to suicide of MBBS student in 2012
Puducherry court has sentenced a local resident S Pradeep to five years of rigorous imprisonment in connection with the suicide of MBBS fourth-year student Priyadarshini with whom he was in a relationship, reports said. The case was handed over to the CBI on the orders of the Madras High Court on a petition of the mother of the Priyadarshini. The medical student had hung herself on the night of May 16, 2012, in her hostel room.
Islamabad High Court to decide on Imran Khan’s sentence annulment today
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) in Pakistan said that it will decide on former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s plea today as he challenged the three-year prison term handed to him in the Toshakhana case, reports said. The divisional bench headed by IHC Chief Justice Amir Farooq resumed the hearing on Monday. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan is currently in Attock Jail serving three years in prison in the Toshakhana case i.e. for illegally selling state gifts and he has been disqualified from politics for a period of five years, local media reported. The decision of the Islamabad High Court was challenged by the PTI Chairman on August 3.

BYD unit buys US firm Jabil’s smartphones manufacturing business
Chinese automaker BYD said on Monday its electronics unit has struck a deal with U.S.-based manufacturer Jabil Inc to buy its mobile electronics manufacturing business in China for 15.8 billion yuan ($2.2 billion). The deal will expand BYD Electronic’s (BE) customer base, product portfolio and its smartphone components business as it looks to capture Jabil’s potential growth in the sector. Jabil Circuit, which is based in Singapore and manufactures printed circuit boards, established a unit this month that absorbed its product-manufacturing businesses in Chengdu and Wuxi, which will now be sold to the Chinese group.
