Cars are getting safer, no doubt, even the budget ones. After Tata made the five-star safety rating standard for mass-market cars, others soon took notice. Nowadays, a five-star safety-rated vehicle is the norm. So if you are looking for a vehicle under Rs 10 lakh and safety is a key concern, here are the top five vehicles you need to be seeing.
Top five safest vehicles under Rs 10 lakh
Kia Syros

Let’s kick off the list with the most expensive car on the list today — the Kia Syros. The Syros is also the latest car to earn a five-star rating from Bharat NCAP, scoring full marks for adult and child protection. Priced at Rs 9 lakh onwards, ex-showroom, the Kia Syros gets six airbags, rear ISOFIX mounts, electronic stability control, pedestrian protection, and Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System.
Tata Nexon

The Nexon is the next pick in the list, having earned full points for adult and child protection. The Tata Nexon carries a price tag of 7.99 lakh, ex-showroom and is available in petrol diesel, CNG, and all-electric versions. The Tata Nexon set the benchmark in safety for vehicles in India and in its latest generation, the sub-4 metre SUV continues to do so.
Mahindra XUV 3X0

Next on the list is the Tata Nexon’s arch-rival in the category, the Mahindra XUV 3X0. The 3X0 saw a major update recently, which is more than a mere update to the XUV300, and the vehicle took no time to earn five stars for safety, for adults and children. Priced at Rs 7.99 lakh ex-showroom – same as the Nexon – the 3X0 comes in petrol and diesel versions. Safety includes six airbags, a 360-degree surround view camera, and a Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS).
Skoda Kylaq

Next up on the list is another new vehicle in the segment, the Skoda Kylaq. Priced at Rs 7.89 lakh ex-showroom, the Kylaq undercuts the Mahindra XUV 3X0 and the Tata Nexon by Rs 10,000, while carrying a five-star safety rating as well. The Skoda Kylaq gets six airbags, a tyre pressure monitoring system, and all the other electronic aids, but skips out on ADAS.
Tata Punch

The final vehicle with a five-star safety rating under Rs 10 lakh on our list is the Tata Punch. The Tata Punch manages to offer a lot in a budget – including a five star safety rating for adult protection and four-star rating for children – at a price of Rs 6.19 lakh, ex-showroom. The Tata Punch, as a package, is popular with car buyers, which has made it the second-best-selling vehicle in India in FY25, after the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R. The Punch is available in petrol, CNG, and with an all-electric powertrain.
