A spate of new launches have breathed new life into carmakers especially Toyota Innova and Maruti Vitara Brezza utility vehicles, whose sales have been nothing short of spectacular. While growth in car sales in India has been slow over the recent months, both these utility vehicles have carved out a huge niche for themselves. For Maruti Vitara Brezza, which is an entirely new launch this is a massive achievement – Innova is an upgrade.
However, in the list of top 10 passenger vehicle models sold (cars across their various segments) Maruti Alto is still the top selling model in India with 19,874 units while Maruti Dzire comes in second with 14,413 units. In fact, Maruti Suzuki has the top 4 slots in the list all to itself and only in the 5th spot does competition creep in with Hyundai Grand i10, which has sold 12,055 units.
In the top 10 passenger car models list, the only difference is that Renault Kwid creeps in having sold a many as 5,600 units. The notable thing about this particular movement is that the French carmaker has muscled Hyundai Eon out of the list.

In the top 5 utility vehicles list, the topper in 2015 (May) was Bolero, but now the top spot belongs to Toyota Innova. Notably, Mahindra KUV 100 has entered the list, notching up 4,446 units in sales.
The bottom is made up entirely of van models where Maruti Suzuki has made the segment virtually its own. While Maruti Omni has sales of 6,923, Eeco comes in 2nd and Tata Motors ACE Magic is at third.
