Based on the WagonR, the Stingray has projector headlamps that offer better illumination
The Maruti Suzuki Stingray is based on the WagonR with some design tweaks at the front. A notable change is the replacement of a squarish headlamp unit with a sleek projector headlamp unit. Apart from this, the exteriors is a boxy design similar to the WagonR which doesn’t really appeal much. That said, the Stingray measures 3,636 mm in length, is 1,475 mm wide and 1,670 mm tall which gives it acceptable road presence. The ground clearance of 165 mm also aids in tackling undulated roads.
On the inside, the Maruti Suzuki Stingray has an array of convenience features such as a 2-DIN stereo system with USB and AUX-in connectivity. Steering mounted controls, tilt steering, 60:40 rear seat split, a blue themed instrument cluster and power windows add to the features list. Cabin space is more than adequate and four adults taller than six feet can also comfortably sit in this tall-boy hatchback. There are a number of cubby holes, which include a bottle holder integrated into the centre console, retractable cup holders in front of the driver and co-driver AC vents, pockets on the front door panels and a bottle holder moulded at the end of the centre console for the rear passengers.
The Maruti Suzuki Ritz is powered by two engine options namely a 1,197cc petrol and a 1,248 cc diesel engines. The petrol generates 86 hp power at 6,000 rpm and 114 Nm torque at 4,000 rpm and the diesel generates 74 hp at 4,000 rpm and 190 Nm at 2,000 rpm. Both engines are responsive and have acceptable NVH levels for its segment.
The Maruti Suzuki Ritz has three gearbox options – 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic gearbox options for the petrol motor and a 5-speed manual one for the diesel. The dashboard mounted gear lever not only makes slotting into a gear easy, the gearshifts are precise and crisp. The only gripe is the 4-speed automatic transmission that runs out of steam while exceeding 90 km/h. Clutch travel and pressure is really less from the manual transmission that makes the other two options as hassle-free as the automatic. The automatic transmission is available only in the VXi trim as VXi AT.
The Maruti Suzuki Ritz has dual front airbags in the top-end ZDi variant and option for ABS in VXi, which is standard in the VXi AT. The LXi, LDi and VDi variants miss out on Anti-locking Braking System.
The Maruti Suzuki Ritz has a certified mileage of 23.2 km/l for the diesel, 18.5 km/l for the petrol manual options and 17.16 km/l for the petrol automatic option. For its segment, the fuel efficiency figures are acceptable.
