Top selling compact SUVs in FY25: Tata, Maruti lead charge

SUVs have become popular and in the last financial year (FY), the second best-selling vehicle was an SUV. Every major company, from Tata to Mahindra and Hyundai to Kia, sell a compact SUV. They are easy to drive, they have decent legs for the highway, they have a commanding stance, and they can be parked in a city. That said, here are the top five best-selling compact SUVs in India in FY25.

Best-selling compact SUVs in FY25

Leading the charge is Tata Motors with the Punch, a compact SUV that’s available in petrol, CNG, and as a pure EV. Tata sold 1,96,572 units last Financial Year, although it’s a relatively new product in the segment — launched in 2021. The Tata Punch was also the second best-selling vehicle in FY25.

Following the Punch is the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, a compact SUV that has been on sale for many years now and has seen multiple updates over the years. During FY25, Maruti Suzuki sold 1,89,163 units as compared to selling 1,69,897 units the year before, witnessing an 11 percent increase in YoY sales. Following the Brezza is the Fronx, the SUV based on the Baleno, witnessing sales of 1,66,216 units.

Up next is the Tata Nexon, the second Tata vehicle on the list. The Nexon has proven to be extremely successful for Tata Motors and the vehicle is available in petrol, diesel, CNG, and as an all-electric vehicle. The Tata Nexon is available in 100 variants, suiting just about anyone in the market. With sales of 1,63,088 units in FY25, Nexon did see a 5 percent decline in sales.

The fifth vehicle on the list is the Hyundai Venue, an ambitious product from Hyundai that did well initially, but competition soon flooded the market. Hyundai sold 1,19,113 units in FY25, witnessing an 8 percent sales decline. In FY24, Hyundai sold 1,28,897 units of the Venue.
