SUVs have become popular in India and carmakers are either expanding their portfolio, such as Hyundai, updating their lineup like Tata Motors, or launching new vehicles like Honda. Let’s take a look at the top 5 best-selling SUVs in September 2023, along with their sales numbers and YoY growth.
Best-selling SUVs in September 2023

In fifth place is the Hyundai Venue, having sold 12,204 units in September 2023, registering a growth of 11 percent. In comparison, Hyundai sold 11,033 units of the Venue in September 2022. The Hyundai Venue is the carmaker’s second-best-selling SUV and sees competition from the recently updated Tata Nexon.
Hyundai Creta

The fourth-best-selling SUV in September 2023 was the Hyundai Creta, having registered sales of 12,717 units in September 2023. In comparison, Hyundai sold 12,866 units of the Creta in September last year, registering a negative 1 percent YoY growth last month. The Hyundai Creta is soon to get an update and will also feature ADAS.
Tata Punch

In third is the Tata Punch, the carmaker’s entry-level SUV offering for India and also the most affordable 5-star safety-rated car by Global NCAP. Last month, Tata Motors sold 13,036 units of the Punch as compared to selling 12,251 units in September 2022, registering a growth of 6 percent.

The Maruti Suzuki Brezza is the second-best-selling SUV in September 2023, having sold 15,001 units as compared to 15,445 units in September 2022. The Maruti Suzuki Brezza has seen a 3 percent decline in YoY sales. The Brezza saw an update back in July 2022, getting a new design and a host of tech features.
Tata Nexon

The Tata Nexon continues to dominate SUV sales in India, primarily owing to its multiple powertrain options including petrol, diesel, and all-electric. The Nexon saw a major update in design and features recently, making the SUV look more premium and sportier. In September 2023, Tata sold 15,352 units of the Nexon as compared to selling 14,518 units the year before, registering a 6 percent YoY growth.
