SUVs have been the flavour of choice for most Indian car buyers in the past decade. The increase in choices in the sub-4 metre space has only propelled the SUV and crossover body styles. Let us look at the top 5 best-selling subcompact SUVs sold in February 2023.

Tata Punch
Tata Punch is the best-selling model in the sub-4 metre SUV space with a total volume of 18,438 units which resulted in a significant 65% YoY growth. During the same period last year, Tata sold 11,169 units of the micro SUV. These numbers include multiple drivetrains offered in Punch including petrol, CNG, and fully electric.

Maruti Suzuki Brezza
Maruti Suzuki sold 15,675 units in February 2024 with just over a 100 units less from February last year. Hence, sales remained largely stagnant. Brezza, first launched in 2016, as Vitara, received its last major upgrade in 2022. It is currently priced between Rs 8.34 and Rs 14.14 lakh (ex-showroom).

Tata Nexon
Nexon is responsible for propelling Tata Motors’ sales in the passenger vehicle segment. With 14,395 units sold in February, the subcompact crossover registered a marginal YoY growth of 3.46%. Nexon is available in three drivetrains– petrol, diesel, and all-electric, with a Nexon iCNG launch around corners.

Maruti Fronx
Maruti sold 14,168 units of Fronx in February this year. Essentially, a Baleno on heels, the Fronx was launched in March last year. It is available in both petrol and CNG powertrains. Fronx is currently priced between Rs 7.52 lakh and Rs 13.04 lakh (both ex-showroom).

Kia Sonet
Kia Sonet recorded a monthly volume of 9,102 units last month as opposed to 9,836 units sold in February 2023. This led to a YoY decline of 7.46%. First launched in August 2020, Kia gave the Sonet a mid-cycle facelift in December 2023. The subcompact SUV received some subtle styling updates in addition to some new features. It is currently priced between Rs 7.99 lakh and Rs 15.7 lakh (ex-showroom).
