Tata Motors has been battling Hyundai to become the second-largest carmaker in India, while also battling Maruti Suzuki to have one of its products top the list of best-selling cars in India. However, May 2024 saw Tata lose its top spot to Maruti Suzuki again but has put on an impressive battle.
Here are the top three best-selling Tata vehicles in May 2024, along with their sales numbers and YoY growth compared to May 2023.
Tata Tiago
In third place is the Tata Tiago, the company’s entry-level offering that competes with the Maruti Suzuki Swift and the Hyundai Grand i10. Tata sold 5,927 units of the Tiago last month as compared to selling 8,133 units in May 2023, witnessing a 27 percent decline in sales. Sales decline amongst hatchbacks is a trend we have seen recently and the Tiago, despite its choice of powertrains, has still seen a decline.
Tata Nexon
The Nexon was right at the top for Tata Motors in terms of sales, beating the Hyundai Creta and other big names, however, in May 2024, the Nexon failed to make it to the list of top 10 best-selling vehicles. That apart, the Nexon is one of Tata’s best-selling vehicles in India and in May 2024, Tata registered sales of 11,457 units compared to selling 14,423 units in May 2023, witnessing a 21 percent decline in sales.
Tata Punch
Leading sales for Tata in May 2024 is the Punch, having registered sales of 18,949 units as compared to 11,124 units sold in May 2023, witnessing a strong 70 percent growth in sales. The Tata Punch is available in an all-electric version as well, and the micro SUV also secured a five-star safety rating from Bharat NCAP.
