The “Sierra” is a very popular nameplate from the 1990s in the Indian car market which recently got reincarnated. After making its debut in the pre-production form at the 20025 Bharat Mobility Expo 2025, the new-gen Tata Sierra has been spotted testing on the roads. A test mule of the new Sierra was caught on camera, in a fully camouflaged avatar.
The test prototype seen in the images is most likely the ICE version of Sierra with a central air intake in the lower bumper. For the uninitiated, Tata Motors is also working on a battery-powered derivative of the Sierra with the same top cover as its fossil-fueled sibling.
Tata Sierra spied: Expected exterior & interiors
Like the concept model, the production-spec version of Sierra also carries an upright and boxy profile. Although fully wrapped under a camouflage, details like a flat front fascia with a split headlamp setup is very evident. The test mule in these images can be seen riding on steel wheels but the top-spec production version of the SUV is expected to get 19-inch alloy wheels. At the rear, it gets a connected LED light bar giving it a very contemporary look.

The signature curved-over rear-side windows, the high set bonnet and squared-out wheel arch cladding further hark back to the original Sierra from the 1990s. We can expect the final production-spec Sierra to carry forward all the styling cues to the as mentioned above. That said, we haven’t had a glimpse of the Sierra’s interiors yet. However, the model showcased at the Bharata Mobility Expo boaster of a floating triple screen setup and a four-spoke steering wheel.
Tata Sierra: Expected powertrain
Then again, Tata Motors hasn’t revealed anything solid about the engine specifications of the Sierra yet, either EV or ICE. The latter will reportedly receive a 1.5-litre petrol engine option and a 2.0-litre diesel engine option. This motor is expected to churn out 168 bhp and 280 Nm of peak torque. The turbo petrol engine will be a brand new addition in Tata’s PV lineup, and hence specifications of this mill are still in the dark.

On the other hand, the 2.0-litre oil burner will be borrowed from Harrier and Safari which kicks out 168 bhp and 350 Nm of peak torque. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed torque converter automatic and possibly a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
