Tata Motors is readying to launch its fourth electric vehicle (EV) in the form of Punch EV later this month. The company officially unveiled the all-electric derivative of Punch earlier this week which will be underpinned by an all-new dedicated EV architecture called acti.ev.
Pre-bookings for the upcoming battery-powered crossover have already started at a token amount of Rs 21,000. Test mules of the all-electric micro SUV have been spotted numerous occasions over the past few months. Ahead of its launch, expected on 17 January, the homegrown carmaker has indulged in aggressive promotion of the Punch EV on social media.
Tata Punch EV off-road
In a recently uploaded video on YouTube, a fully camouflaged test mule of the upcoming Punch EV can be seen undergoing off-roading tests. The short video showcasing the crossover’s off-roading abilities comes with the caption that reads “SUV so versatile that it takes on all the roads!”.
In the video, the battery-powered Punch can be seen overcoming a variety of off-roading obstacles like articulation test, water wading, rock crawling, mud-sliding, etc. with relative ease. Unlike other electric cars from Tata Motors, including Tigor EV, Tiago EV and Nexon EV, the Punch EV is based on a new born electric platform which can be adapted into multiple drivetrains– front-wheel, rear-wheel or all-wheel drives. That said, we don’t expect Tata Motors to offer an all-wheel drive layout for an entry-level car.
Tata Punch EV variants & colour schemes
Tata Motors is offering the Punch EV in five trims namely Smart, Smart+, Adventure, Empowered and Empowered+. The Long Range version will only be offered in the top three trims. Both versions of the subcompact electric SUV can be had with five dual-tone colour schemes including Empowered Oxide, Seaweed, Fearless Red, Daytona Grey, and Pristine White, all available with a black roof and pillars.
