Tata Motors unveiled the upcoming Nexon i-CNG at the recently concluded Bharat Mobility Expo 2024. The Indian manufacturer hasn’t revealed the launch date yet but it is expected to make its debut sometime this year. The Nexon i-CNG will take on the Maruti Suzuki Brezza S-CNG. We take a quick look at the two CNG SUVs.
Tata Nexon iCNG vs Maruti Suzuki Brezza S-CNG: Engine Specs
Tata Motors has confirmed that the Nexon will be powered by a 1.2-litre turbo petrol. The standard petrol version has a class-leading output of 118bhp and 170Nm of torque. The CNG version is expected to have a lower output, but the Nexon will be the first CNG vehicle to get a turbo petrol powertrain. It will get a manual transmission and could even be mated with an AMT option as Tata Motors recently launched the Tiago and Tigor AMT trims. Tata Motors continues to offer a unique twin 60-litre CNG tank with a usable boot space of 230 litres.

Maruti Suzuki Brezza is powered by its tried-and-tested 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine which churns out 87bhp with 121.5Nm in CNG mode. In petrol mode, the SUV pumps out 99bhp and 136Nm torque. It comes mated to a 5-speed manual and no automatic option. It has a single CNG tank with a capacity of 55 litres.

The Nexon CNG gets a single ECU, which effortlessly changes from CNG to petrol mode without any pronounced lag. The system also automatically switches the driving modes based on the fuel or CNG level. The vehicle can be directly started on CNG mode.
The Brezza CNG is available in three variants — LXI, VXI and ZXI. It starts from Rs 9.29 lakh to Rs 12.10 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi. The ZXI trim is also available in dual-tone colour and is priced at Rs 12.26 lakh. According to Maruti Suzuki, it returns an average of 25.51 km/kg.
