India’s number one electric vehicle manufacturer Tata Motors is gearing up to launch its flagship model, the Harrier EV. Tata Motors first showcased the Harrier EV concept at the Auto Expo 2023 and later at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo this year. Tata Motors has not yet confirmed the launch day of the Harrier EV, but it is expected to debut in 2025. Like the internal combustion (ICE) models, the Safari EV is expected to be based on the Harrier EV with a three-row seating layout.

1. Tata Harrier EV: Drivetrain

The recent spy images of the Harrier EV test mule revealed that the electric motor is mounted on the rear axle. As the Harrier EV is based on Tata Motors’ new EV architecture—acti.EV, the SUV will also get an all-wheel-drive version, the first AWD in the Tata Motors portfolio. Currently, only the Punch EV is based on this versatile platform. The AWD model will be powered by twin electric motors, one on each axle.

Based on the images posted by CarDekho, Tata Motors has equipped the electric SUV with an independent rear suspension, unlike the Harrier ICE version. This update is expected to improve the Harrier EV’s ride and handling traits.

2. Tata Harrier EV: Range

Tata Motors hasn’t revealed the specifications of the powertrain but the Harrier EV is expected to offer a driving range in the region of 500 km on a single charge. As seen in the Nexon EV, the Harrier EV is also expected to come with features like Vehicle-2-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-2-Vehicle (V2V) technologies. With V2L, the Harrier EV will be able to charge gadgets and even power household utilities when you’re off camping. In the case of the V2V feature, as the name suggests, the Harrier EV will be able to charge another EV.

It may also offer smart welcome and goodbye lights which will double up as a charging indicator. Tata Motors will leave no stone unturned, hence, the Harrier EV will get all LED lights with turning lamps. The new EV SUV’s side profile will remain the same though it will sport a new set of alloy wheels and the rear could be slightly tweaked with connected lamps.
