It’s quite hard to believe but Tata Motors is gearing up to enter one of the most competitive segments in the Indian market, the midsize SUV division. The Indian automaker recently launched the Curvv EV and its internal combustion engine (ICE) version will make its debut in September. Here are the top four most frequently asked questions about the Curvv ICE addressed.

Will the Tata Curvv ICE offer a diesel engine option?

Speaking exclusively to Express Drives,  Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, said, “Till there is demand for diesel (in the SUV segment), we will exist.” Tata Motors will offer the 1.5-litre Kryojet diesel engine, which churns out 116 bhp and 260 Nm of torque. It will be mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. That latter gearbox is a first for a diesel in this segment.

What petrol engine options will the Tata Curvv will come with?

The Curvv follows the suit of the Volkswagen Group’s philosophy and will only offer turbo petrol engines and no naturally aspirated powertrain. The coupe SUV will retain the Nexon’s 1.2-litre Revotron turbo with 118 bhp and 170 Nm of torque. There is also the brand new more powerful 123 bhp 1.2-litre GDi Hyperion turbo petrol direct injection with 225 Nm of torque. Both the engine will be available in 6-speed manual and 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmissions.

What are the top features the Tata Curvv will be equipped with?

The Curvv is packed with convenient and safety features like a panoramic sunroof, a six-way powered driver’s seat, a six-way adjustable front passenger seat, a 12.3-inch infotainment display which is the biggest in the segment, front ventilated seats, an electric parking brake with auto hold, powered tailgate with gesture controls, a premium 9-speaker JBL music system and 20 Level 2 ADAS functions.

Is the Tata Curvv bigger than the best-seller Hyundai Creta?

The Curvv’s dimensions are at par with the best-selling midsize SUV, the Hyundai Creta. The Tata SUV is based on a 2,560 mm wheelbase, which is 50 mm shorter than the Creta’s 2,610 mm. The Curvv makes a comeback with 1,810 mm width, while the Creta falls behind by 20 mm with 1,790 mm. At a height of 1,630 mm, the Curvv loses out to the Creta by 5 mm. The reason for this could be the sloping roofline of the Tata SUV.
