Volkswagen launched the much waited sporty hatchback, the Golf GTI, starting from Rs 53 lakh, ex-showroom introductory price. Entering the Indian market via the completely built unit (CBU) way, the first batch of 150 units of the Golf GTI is completely sold out. Volkswagen is planning to get another 100 units sometime this year. It is the second vehicle to come under the GTI nameplate after the Polo GTI.Â

Created not for the weak-hearted, the Golf GTI is equipped with a 2-litre TSI turbocharged petrol engine that delivers 261 bhp and 370Nm torque. The Golf GTI accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in just 5.9 seconds. Paired with razor-sharp handling and dynamic styling, the GTI offers the perfect blend of style and horsepower. The powertrain is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission with paddle shifters. With an electronically controlled front-axle differential lock, the Golf GTI has razor-sharp handling capabilities.

The Golf GTI gets specially crafted seats with the GTI brand on the headrest. The hatchback is equipped with twin displays — the 12.3-inch infotainment system and the 10.25-inch digital instrument console. In terms of dimensions, the Golf GTI is 4289 mm in length, 1789 mm in width and 1471 mm in height. Just to give a context on how long the hatch back, it is 41 mm shorter than the mid-size SUV, the Hyundai Creta. The Golf GTI boasts an illuminated VW logo along with signature GTI accents. The fog lamps are uniquely x-shaped, while it sports 18-inch alloy wheels. To ensure the Golf GTI delivers the perfect acoustic experience, it features dual chrome-finished exhausts.
