Hyundai Exter CNG vs Maruti Suzuki Fronx CNG: Price, Mileage, Specifications

Hyundai is the second automobile manufacturer to introduce a twin CNG tank after Tata Motors. The South Korean recently introduced this versatile and luggage-saving tank in the Exter and will later be available on the Grand i10 Nios and the Aura. The Exter CNG rivals against Maruti Suzuki Fronx, which is one of the top 20 best-selling vehicles in India. Here’s a look at the two sub-compact CNG-powered SUVs. 

Hyundai Exter CNG vs Maruti Suzuki Fronx CNG: Dimensions

Strictly based on dimensions, the Maruti Fronx is 3995 mm in length, and 1765 mm in width and is based on a longer 2520 mm wheelbase. The Punch, on the other hand, has a taller stance with a height of 1631 mm. What is interesting to note is that the Exter CNG comes with a 15-inch tyre size while the Fronx sports 16-inch ones. Even though the new twin CNG tank has improved the Exter’s boot space, both Hyundai and Marut Suzuki have not revealed the exact size.

Both the Exter CNG and the Fronx CNG are powered by a 1.2-iltre naturally aspirated engine. The Hyundai CNG produces 68 bhp and 95.2Nm while the Maruti Suzuki CNG has an output of 76.4 bhp and 98.5 Nm of torque. Both the vehicles are mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.

Hyundai will continue to sell both the single and twin-cylinder Exter CNG, starting at Rs 8.50 lakh, ex-showroom. It comes in three variants: S, SX, and SX Knight Edition. On the other hand, the Fronx is available in two trims, Sigma and Delta, and is equipped solely with the conventional single-cylinder CNG tank. The Fronx CNG is priced at Rs 8.46 lakh, ex-showroom.
