The rage of SUVs doesn’t seem to stop anytime soon. Customers have found a liking for high-riding crossovers with a tall frame and commanding road presence. As a result, other segments have bore the brunt of a reduced market share. Barring a few popular hatchbacks, most of the top-selling PVs now feature SUVs/crossovers.
Let us look at the seven best-selling SUVs/crossovers for the month of May 2024.

Tata Punch
Tata Punch continues to be the best-selling SUV in India, registering a monthly volume of 18,949 which translates to an impressive 70% YoY growth. Punch is one of the most affordable SUVs on sale in India today with prices starting from Rs 6.13 lakh and going up to Rs 10.20 lakh (both ex-showroom). Besides a competitive price tag, the fact that Punch is one of the safest cars in India with a 5-star safety rating makes it a compelling choice for small-car buyers.

Hyundai Creta
Creta is Hyundai’s breadwinner in India, recording a monthly sales volume of 14,662 units in May this year which resulted in a marginal 1% growth. Sales of Creta have mostly remained strong and stagnant throughout the last few years. The mid-size SUV received two major upgrades this year– a mid-cycle facelift and a sportier N-Line version which added to the Creta’s glory.

Maruti Brezza
Maruti Brezza continues to be a safe choice for buyers since being a Maruti, service and aftermarket support availability is sorted. The subcompact SUV registered 14,186 units last month, translating to a 6% YoY growth. Prices for Brezza start at Rs. 8.34 lakh and go up to Rs. 14.14 Lakh (both ex-showroom).

Mahindra Scorpio
The rise of Scorpio as one of the best-selling SUVs in the market is simply brilliant. The new-gen Scorpio N is responsible for rejuvenation of the Scorpio brand of SUVs which also comprises the older Scorpio Classic. Scorpio is also the best-selling ladder-on-frame SUV in India with 13,717 units sold in May this year, reporting a healthy 47% YoY growth.

Maruti Fronx
Maruti Suzuki has been very strategic about which new models to introduce. Fronx, based on Baleno, is the second sub-compact SUV in Maruti’s lineup after Brezza and enjoys a healthy customer base. Prices for Fronx start at Rs 7.51 lakh and go up to Rs 13.04 lakh (both ex-showroom). Maruti dispatched a total of 12,681 units of Fronx last month, leading to a 29% YoY growth.

Tata Nexon
Tata Nexon is responsible for revitalisation of Tata Motors’ sales figures in India. It is one of the best-selling subcompact SUVs in the country, however, the dispatch rate for the sub-4 metre SUV has decreased significantly last month. Tata Motors recorded a monthly sales volume of 11,457 units for Nexon in May this year which led to a 21% YoY decline.

Mahindra XUV 3XO
Mahindra provided a significant overhaul to the XUV 3XO over the outgoing XUV 300 in terms of looks as well as functionality. In its earlier avatar as the XUV300, the subcompact SUV looked outdated to say the least and with this massive upgrade, Mahindra has witnessed a 95% YoY bump in sales in May this year. Prices for XUV 3XO start at Rs 7.49 lakh and go up to Rs 15.49 lakh (both ex-showroom).
