Five upcoming SUVs: From Mahindra Thar 5-door to Tata Curvv

The year 2024 will continue to rain with SUVs. Here are five SUVs that will soon make its debut in the Indian market.

he CY 2023 was an unprecedented year for the automobile market as it achieved a record annual sale of 4.1 million passenger vehicles. With a significant growth of 8.2 per cent as compared to CY 2022, it is the SUV segment that’s taken the pole position with a market share of 48.7 per cent. India’s love story with SUVs isn’t diminishing any time soon as we give you a glimpse of what is to come in this segment. Here are the five upcoming SUVs, which are expected to make their debut soon.

Five upcoming SUVs: Hyundai Creta N Line

Hyundai recently launched the 2024 facelift Creta and without wasting any time, on March 11th the sporty N Line version will make its debut. The Creta N Line will sport the signature Thunder Blue paint scheme and will receive other additional design tweaks like a more in-your-face front grille, buffed-up bumper and massive skid plates. Along with that, it will have run inserts around the SUV at its lower body panel. It will get a bigger set of 18-inch alloy wheels. The Creta N Line will be powered by the 158bhp 1.5-litre turbo petrol with 258Nm and will be mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Unlike the standard Creta, the former gearbox is only available in the N Line trim.

Five upcoming SUVs: Tata Curvv

Tata Motors recently showcased the almost production-ready version of the Curvv at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo. The Indian manufacturer will launch the Curvv as an all-electric and internal combustion engine version. The SUV Coupe EV is based on the new Acti.EV platform like the Punch EV. Even though the company remains tight-lipped on its EV specifications, it is expected to offer a range in the region of 500 km. The Curvv is expected to be powered by the new 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine that was showcased at the Auto Expo last year with an output of 123bhp and 225Nm of torque. Tata Motors has also confirmed that the Curvv is available with its tried-and-tested 1.5-litre diesel engine. Like the Nexon, the automobile manufacturer will offer a range of transmissions in both manual and automatic based on the engine and variant. 

Five upcoming SUVs: Mahindra XUV300

This has been some time coming, but now the wait isn’t too long. Mahindra will soon launch the XUV300 facelift and will receive a nip-and-tuck job in the exteriors. The company have redesigned the front fascia, a new set of LED headlamps and DRLs, alloy wheels, connected LED tail lights and reprofiled bumpers. The important upgrades will be inside the cabin like twin 10.25-inch screens — the infotainment system and instrument console, ventilated front seats and features like a 360-degree camera. The XUV300 continues to be offered in two trims of 1.2-litre turbo petrol —108bhp with 200Nm for the standard and the TGDI churns out 129bhp with 230Nm. There is also the 1.5-litre diesel engine that produces 115bhp and 300Nm. The standard petrol and the diesel will come mated with a 6-speed manual and an AMT while the TGDI will get a 6-speed automatic torque converter. 

Five upcoming SUVs: Mahindra Thar 5-door 

The Mahindra Thar 5-door will get its unique design elements to make it stand apart from the current 3-door one. The 5-door Thar is expected to get a new front grille, bumpers with new fog lamps and redesigned tail lamps. The top-of-the-line Thar will be equipped with all LED set-up. Taking a leaf out of the 2024 XUV300, the Thar could also get dual 10.25-inch screens, and new upholstery and could even have rear air condition vents and charging slots. The Thar will borrow both the 2-litre petrol and the 2.2-litre diesel engines from the Scorpio N. The former produces 200bhp with the manual version churning out 370Nm and the automatic with 380Nm. The diesel belts out 172bhp and the manual has a torque of 370N and 400Nm. Both the petrol and diesel are mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic torque converter. 

Five upcoming SUVs: 2024 Hyundai Alcazar

The Hyundai Alcazar will soon get its midlife update and the design will be based on the 2024 Creta. This includes a new grille, front and rear LED light cluster, LED DRLs, and new alloy wheels. The cabin will get some additional convenient features like a panoramic sunroof, front ventilated seats and a twin 10.25-inch display for the infotainment system and the driver’s console. The Alcazar will also come equipped with an ADAS suite. The powertrain options will remain the same with the 1.5-litre turbo petrol that has an output of 158bhp and 258Nm and the 113bhp 1.5-lire diesel with 250Nm of torque. The petrol will be available with either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and the diesel with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic torque converter.
