KV Kamath, MD & CEO of ICICI Bank was awarded the UK Trade & Investment special recognition award, which pays tribute to an individual who has made a significant contribution to the India-UK relationship. Habil Khorakiwala, chairman, Wockhardt was awarded entrepreneur of the year, for steering Wockhardt through a successful internationalisation programme and Naresh Goyal, chairman of Jet Airways, was awarded business person of the year for making the UK a strategic and pivotal destination in Jet Airway?s international expansion plans.

The UK Trade & Investment India Business Awards 2008 were announced on Tuesday at a ceremony in Mumbai, attended by senior business leaders from India Inc and UK Plc. The awards celebrate India-UK business partnerships in terms of inward investment, collaborations, entrepreneurship and innovation, which is the theme of the awards this year.

Winners under other categories were:

Innovation award of the year: Hindustan Unilever for continued innovation in the highly competitive Indian FMCG segment and the launch of its ?Pureit? in-home water purification system.

Corporate social responsibility Awards of the Year: Satyam Computers for the work of its foundations and the establishment of the Emergency Management research institute.

Investor of the year: Amtek Auto for investing in new markets to drive growth and acquire technology and expertise to become a front runner in the global automotive component industry.

Business partnership of the year (large): ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Co for drawing on the strengths of both partners to maintain its position over the last 7 years as the leading private life insurer in the country.

Business partnership of the year (small): Jupiter Strategic Technologies for its successful tie up with Marshall Aerospace Ltd to supply aviation lifecycle support services and homeland security technology services.

New market entrant of the year (UK into India): Ultra Motor Company for launching electric 2 wheelers across India.

New market entrant of the year (India into UK): Applabs for successfully managing integration of intellectual property and business processes of Indian and UK operations to become the world?s largest independent global provider of testing facilities.
