Indian equity indices opened Tuesday’s trading session on a higher note. The NSE Nifty 50 opened 31 points or 0.12% higher at 25,109. The BSE Sensex opened 125 points or 0.15% higher at 81,915.

The Bank Nifty opened 59 points or 0.11% higher at 56,164. Similarly, the small and midcap stocks opened the day higher. The Nifty Midcap rose 100 points or 0.17% to open at 58,115.

On Monday, Nifty 50 decisively closed above 25,000. Today, it is likely to test 25,200-25,250 in the immediate near term. “The chart of the day was the Banknifty index that witnessed a bullish breakout from an Inverted Head and Shoulder formation on the daily chart and seems all set to test 57,000-57,500 spot levels in the immediate near term,” said Vipin Kumar, Assistant Vice President of Technical and Derivatives Research at Globe Capital.

Early gainers and laggards

In early trade, among the Nifty 50, top gainers at this hour were Coal India, Power Grid Corp, Wipro, Bajaj Finance, and ONGC. On the flip side, the key laggards in the Nifty 50 pack included Trent, Max Healthcare, Axis Bank, Tata Motors, and InterGlobe Aviation (IndiGo). 

Major movers on Tuesday

The stocks that were the major movers in the opening trade included Reliance Industries, ICICI Bank, Power Grid Corp, Bajaj Finance, and Larsen & Toubro, which were the major movers in the morning trade.
