Chennai ‘Cyclone Michaung’ Tracker Highlights: The deep depression over the Bay of Bengal, which escalated into a severe cyclonic storm named ‘Michuang,’ made landfall near Nellore and Machilipatnam with wind speeds reaching up to 90-100 km/h. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the landfall process of Cyclone Michaung is now completed, and the weather system is likely to move northwards, weakening into a cyclonic storm. It has brought heavy rains to Andhra Pradesh, resulting in inundated streets and significant disruption to normal life in neighboring Tamil Nadu. Andhra Pradesh is expected to experience rain for over the next 24 hours. So far, 17 people have lost their lives in rain-related incidents in Chennai. Check grammar
The Andhra Pradesh government has taken measures to combat the impact of the storm with Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy ordering all schools to be closed and putting eight districts—Tirupati, Nellore, Prakasam, Bapatla, Krishna, West Godavari, Konaseema, and Kakinada—on high alert. The CM also convened a meeting with district collectors to assess the situation and allocate funds to protect crops.
On Sunday, Prime Minister Modi said he is in constant touch with the governments of states and assured continuous coordination with the states on the eastern coast for relief and rescue operations. He encouraged BJP workers in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh to support local administrations in these efforts.
